DOE Recognizes MORE Power And Negros Power For Full Compliance And Industry Transparency

The Department of Energy (DOE) has recognized MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) and Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power) for their strong commitment to regulatory compliance and transparency in the power sector.

Both utilities received plaques of appreciation for submitting complete and timely reportorial requirements, reflecting their dedication to supporting efficient governance and data-driven decision-making in the energy industry.

Recognition for Timely Compliance

The awards were given in line with DOE Department Circular No. DC2023-03-0005, which outlines supplemental guidelines for managing reportorial obligations among participants in the electric power industry.

This circular helps ensure that the DOE receives accurate and updated information from distribution utilities and other stakeholders. Reliable reporting allows the agency to monitor industry performance, assess challenges, and plan improvements in the country’s power system.

The plaques were signed by DOE Undersecretary Rowena Cristina L. Guevarra, Ph.D., and formally presented at the Energy Center in Bonifacio Global City.

Why Compliance Matters

In today’s rapidly changing energy landscape, timely reporting has become more important than ever. Growing electricity demand, the expansion of renewable energy sources, and climate-related risks all require stronger coordination between government and utility providers.

Accurate data submitted by power distributors helps government agencies in several key areas:

  • Monitoring grid performance and power supply conditions
  • Preventing outages through better planning
  • Supporting infrastructure upgrades
  • Accelerating renewable energy programs
  • Improving policies for long-term energy security

Through consistent compliance, utilities help build a more responsive and efficient power sector.

Supporting the Visayas Power Grid

MORE Power serves Iloilo City and nearby communities, while Negros Power operates as the main electricity distributor in Central Negros. Their participation in DOE reporting requirements contributes to the strengthening of the Visayas grid, particularly as the region continues to recover from past supply challenges and prepares for future demand growth.

Their cooperation is also important as the government continues electrification efforts and modernization programs across the country.

Commitment to Progress

According to Roel Z. Castro, President and CEO of both MORE Power and Negros Power, complete and timely submissions give the DOE valuable information that can help move key projects forward, including grid modernization and renewable energy development.

He also noted that efficient reporting can help speed up approvals, reduce delays, and support national electrification goals.

Setting the Standard for the Industry

As the Philippines works toward achieving full household electrification by 2028, recognition such as this highlights the importance of accountability and cooperation in the energy sector.

The acknowledgment given to MORE Power and Negros Power reflects how compliance goes beyond paperwork — it plays a direct role in improving service reliability, strengthening the grid, and helping bring electricity to more Filipino communities.
