Negros Power has recently undertaken a proactive approach to minimize power outages through strategic maintenance of critical sub-transmission lines. This initiative comes as a response to the challenges posed by aging infrastructure, aiming to enhance the resilience of the power system and ensure uninterrupted service to consumers in Central Negros.

Strengthening Infrastructure for Enhanced Reliability

Negros Power’s recent maintenance activities focused on a crucial 3-kilometer segment of the Bacolod-Silay 69KV sub-transmission line. The company replaced a total of 132 sets of suspension insulators on 48 structures along this vital stretch. The replacement involved upgrading from traditional porcelain insulators to advanced polymer insulators designed to withstand high voltages and adverse weather conditions effectively.

Addressing Key Challenges in Maintenance

The maintenance work posed unique challenges due to the line’s location, cutting through sugarcane plantations in the cities of Talisay and Silay. Despite these obstacles, the dedicated line crews successfully completed the task, showcasing their commitment to ensuring a reliable power supply for the area.

Long-Term Modernization Plan

Negros Power’s proactive approach is part of a broader five-year rehabilitation and modernization plan, encompassing:

  • Upgrading All Insulators: The company’s goal is to replace all insulators along the 30-kilometer sub-transmission line with polymer insulators.
  • Relocating Sub-Transmission Lines: Moving the lines from remote sugarcane fields to main roads will enhance maintenance and repair accessibility, fostering efficiency.
  • Enhancing System Resilience: These upgrades are aimed at reducing the risk of widespread outages and bolstering overall system reliability.

Additionally, Negros Power has initiated modernization projects like installing tree wires, new pin insulators, and cross arms along Burgos Feeder 3 in Bacolod City, further fortifying Central Negros’ power infrastructure.

The transition from reactive repairs to preventive measures ensures a more stable power supply, offering consumers a seamless experience with fewer interruptions and faster restoration times during emergencies.

In conclusion, Negros Power’s proactive maintenance on critical sub-transmission lines not only addresses immediate challenges but also sets the stage for a more resilient and consumer-centric power distribution system in Central Negros. Through strategic upgrades and forward-thinking initiatives, the company is dedicated to providing reliable and uninterrupted electricity to its valued consumers.
