1,671 Remote Homes In Central Negros Now Connected To Electricity

1,671 Remote Homes In Central Negros Now Connected To Electricity

For decades, many remote communities in Central Negros lived without access to a basic necessity — electricity. Days ended with the setting sun, and nights were filled with dim candlelight, creating hurdles for education, safety, and daily routines. Today, that story is being rewritten for 1,671 households, thanks to the Sitio Electrification Program of Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power).

Since December 2024, Negros Power has energized 17 underserved sitios in Bacolod City, Talisay, Silay, Bago, Murcia, and Don Salvador Benedicto. With a nearly ₱26 million investment, the initiative brought electricity directly to households through newly installed poles, lines, transformers, and meters — delivering what had long been only a dream to many residents.

Empowering Lives, One Home at a Time

“This is more than an infrastructure project — it’s about giving people the dignity and comfort they deserve,” said Roel Z. Castro, President and CEO of Negros Power. “We are committed to reaching communities that were left behind.”

In Silay City’s Hacienda Embang Mesa in Barangay Bagtic, residents have already felt the life-changing impact. Judith Arsenal, a mother of three, recalls the daily dangers of relying on kerosene lamps. “There were nights I worried for my children’s safety. They struggled to study, and I feared our house might catch fire,” she shared. “Now, we finally have lights and peace of mind.”

Another resident, Cecilia Yeban, noted how electricity transformed their sense of connection. “Before, we walked for hours just to charge a phone. Now, we feel part of the world again.”

Lighting the Way for Inclusive Growth

Beyond lighting homes, the electrification program improves access to education, enhances security, supports small livelihoods, and enables communication. It has also sparked hope in areas once considered too remote to serve.

Negros Power’s approach to inclusive service reflects its broader mission since receiving its franchise in 2024 — to not only provide electricity, but to drive development across Central Negros.

“We’re distributing more than power — we’re bringing opportunity and progress,” Castro affirmed.

Looking Ahead

Negros Power views this milestone as only the beginning of a much larger effort. By placing people at the center of its operations, the company continues to push forward with consumer-focused programs that enhance quality of life.
