NEPC Engages Bacolod City Vendors Through Consumer Education Initiative

The Negros Electric Power Corporation (NEPC) recently strengthened its engagement with the local business sector by conducting an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activity for Bacolod City vendors. The initiative aimed to improve consumer awareness on electricity-related matters, including rights, responsibilities, and current programs that directly affect daily operations.
Held on January 30, 2026, the IEC gathered 30 vendor participants who serve as officers and representatives of 17 vendors’ associations under the Federation of Bacolod City Vendors Association (FedBaCVA). The session provided a platform for open discussion and learning, particularly on electricity use, service policies, and consumer protection.

During the activity, NEPC officials presented key topics relevant to electricity consumers. Maricel Pe, Assistant Vice President for Customer Care and Marketing, discussed available consumer programs designed to support and assist customers. Engr. Leomel “Bong” Tambanillo shared updates on NEPC’s accomplishments over the past 16 months, highlighting improvements in service delivery and operational performance.
Legal and regulatory matters were also addressed. Engr. Edwin M. Montemayor explained Republic Act No. 7832, emphasizing its importance in preventing electricity pilferage and reducing system losses. Meanwhile, Atty. Ely Niño Azuelo, Junior Legal Officer of Negros Power, discussed the Magna Carta for Electricity Consumers, outlining the rights and obligations of electricity users.

Participants described the IEC as timely and informative, noting that it helped clarify policies and strengthened their understanding of electricity-related laws. Vendor representatives emphasized that the activity equipped them with practical knowledge that can be shared with their members, encouraging responsible electricity use and closer cooperation with NEPC.
The IEC activity served as a meaningful venue for dialogue between NEPC and the vendor sector, reinforcing collaboration and mutual understanding. The initiative reflects NEPC’s continued commitment to consumer education, community partnership, and service excellence, guided by its advocacy of putting consumers first.
