Negros Power August 2026 Rates Rise Slightly Amid Higher Transmission Costs

Customers of Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power) will see a modest increase in electricity rates this August 2026, with the average residential rate reaching ₱14.2787 per kilowatt-hour (kWh). This is ₱0.1500/kWh higher than the ₱14.1287/kWh residential rate recorded in July.

The adjustment comes despite a decline in generation charges, as higher transmission and other electricity-related costs pushed the overall rate upward.

WESM Prices Increase Amid Supply Constraints

One factor affecting electricity costs was the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), where the rate increased from ₱10.4213/kWh in July to ₱12.2420/kWh in August.

The increase was associated with stronger electricity demand and the temporary unavailability of several power plants. These supply conditions contributed to the declaration of Yellow and Red Alerts in the Luzon and Visayas grids, indicating tighter power supply conditions.

Despite the higher WESM price, Negros Power reported a ₱0.3364/kWh decrease in the generation charge for August. This was made possible through the staggered recovery of higher WESM costs over five months, rather than passing the full increase on to customers in a single billing period.

Transmission and Other Charges Push Overall Rate Higher

While generation costs declined, transmission charges increased by ₱0.2593/kWh. The increase was mainly attributed to higher transmission costs and ancillary services associated with reserve market charges.

The August electricity rate also reflects the implementation of a new Feed-in Tariff (FIT) rate of ₱0.3359/kWh, as well as Real Property and Local Taxes for the third quarter.

Electricity rates are made up of several components, including generation, transmission, distribution, system loss, government-mandated charges, and taxes. Changes in these components can affect the final rate paid by consumers.

August 2026 Electricity Rates

For August 2026, the average electricity rates for Negros Power customers are:

• Residential: ₱14.2787/kWh
• Low Voltage: ₱14.3216/kWh
• High Voltage: ₱13.2520/kWh

For residential customers, the overall adjustment translates to an increase of approximately ₱0.15/kWh compared with July.

Staggered Cost Recovery Helps Limit Impact

Negros Power continues to use staggered cost recovery as a measure to manage the impact of higher electricity market costs on consumers. By spreading the recovery over several months, the company aims to prevent a larger increase from being reflected in a single billing period.

Although August saw lower generation charges, increases in transmission and other charges resulted in the slight rise in the overall residential electricity rate.

Negros Power said it will continue to manage power-related costs while keeping customers informed about the factors that influence their monthly electricity bills.
