Electricity Rates In Central Negros Decline In December 2025
Electricity consumers in Central Negros are set to benefit from lower power rates this December 2025, following an official rate adjustment announced by Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power). The reduction provides timely financial relief to households and businesses, particularly as energy consumption typically rises during the holiday season.
Lower Residential Electricity Rates
For December 2025, Negros Power set the average residential electricity rate at ₱12.0441 per kilowatt-hour (kWh). This marks a decrease of ₱0.1881/kWh compared to the ₱12.2322/kWh recorded in the previous month. While the adjustment may appear modest on a per-unit basis, it translates into noticeable savings for consumers when applied to monthly household consumption.

Factors Behind the Rate Reduction
The decline in electricity rates was primarily influenced by adjustments in power supply costs, particularly from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM).
- The WESM rate dropped from ₱7.6709/kWh to ₱6.0475/kWh, reflecting a decrease of ₱1.6304/kWh.
- This reduction was attributed to lower electricity demand across the Visayas following recent typhoons, which affected overall consumption patterns.
- As a result, generation charges declined by ₱0.4339/kWh, contributing significantly to the lower overall rate.
Transmission Charges See Slight Increase
Despite the reduction in power supply costs, transmission-related charges recorded a slight upward adjustment.
- Ancillary Service Charges increased from ₱60.2813/kW to ₱62.9213/kW.
- The adjustment was linked to system conditions following the Visayas-wide typhoons, which required additional support services to stabilize the grid.
- For residential consumers, this translated to an increase of approximately ₱0.1932/kWh.
Even with this increase, Negros Power emphasized that the overall effect remained favorable to consumers.
Net Impact Remains Positive for Consumers
When all cost components were accounted for, the net electricity rate still declined, ensuring that consumers experience actual savings in their December power bills. Negros Power noted that the reduction demonstrates how market conditions and system adjustments can work together to ease costs without compromising grid reliability.
December 2025 Average Electricity Rates by Customer Type
Negros Power released the following average electricity rates for December 2025:
- Residential (RES): ₱12.0441/kWh
- Low Voltage (LV): ₱12.0474/kWh
- High Voltage (HV): ₱10.7804/kWh
These figures reflect the combined effects of generation, transmission, and other pass-through charges for each customer category.
Looking Ahead
Negros Power stated that it continues to monitor market movements and system conditions closely to ensure fair and transparent pricing for its consumers. While external factors such as weather events and regional demand can influence rates, the utility reiterated its commitment to balancing cost efficiency with reliable service.
As the year ends, the December 2025 rate adjustment offers welcome relief to electricity consumers across Central Negros, reinforcing the importance of responsive power management and timely regulatory updates in the energy sector.
