Negros Power Minimizes Power Interruption Impact Through System Modernization And Strategic Planning
Negros Power Shields Nearly 50% of Consumers from NGCP Power Interruption

Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power) once again demonstrated its growing technical capability and commitment to reliable service by successfully reducing the impact of a recent National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) maintenance shutdown.
During the scheduled outage on October 25, 2025, which affected the Bacolod–Alijis 69kV line from 8AM to 5PM, Negros Power managed to shield nearly half of the originally affected consumers from experiencing a full-day power interruption.
Strategic Measures Prevent Widespread Outage

The NGCP maintenance work directly affected Negros Power’s Murcia and Alijis substations, facilities that collectively serve 93,994 customers across Central Negros. However, due to advanced system planning and load management, only 47,102 consumers experienced the interruption — effectively sparing 46,892 households and businesses from the outage.
According to Engr. Leomel Tambanillo, Assistant Vice President for Planning and Business Operations and company spokesperson, this outcome highlights the success of Negros Power’s infrastructure modernization.
“We maximized our redundant lines and load break switches to connect affected feeders to other substations with sufficient supply,” Tambanillo explained. “Through this tactical maneuver, we were able to maintain service continuity for almost half of our consumers.”
Maximizing Every Opportunity for Improvement
Negros Power also took advantage of the NGCP downtime to conduct its own system upgrades — a practice now embedded in its operational strategy. The company’s engineers worked on internal rehabilitation and modernization projects to strengthen the power distribution network, aligning with its five-year development plan for Central Negros.
“We make sure that every NGCP-requested interruption is used productively,” Tambanillo added. “Rather than causing additional disruptions, we synchronize our internal improvements during these windows to enhance overall system performance.”
Continuous Modernization for a Smarter, Stronger Grid

The company’s ongoing rehabilitation program is already producing measurable results. Negros Power reported a 70% reduction in unscheduled power interruptions, underscoring the effectiveness of its modernization investments and system automation efforts.
These advancements — which include the installation of upgraded load switches, advanced monitoring tools, and network redundancy — have strengthened the utility’s capacity to respond to both planned and unforeseen events with greater flexibility and precision.
Tambanillo emphasized that Negros Power’s long-term goal is to establish a smart, resilient, and interruption-free power distribution system across Central Negros.
“Our ultimate vision is a smarter and stronger grid that ensures uninterrupted power for all,” he said. “We are investing in both technology and people to make this a reality.”
A Commitment to Consumers and Progress
Negros Power extended its appreciation to consumers for their patience during the maintenance activity, assuring the public that all ongoing rehabilitation works are directed toward achieving more stable and reliable electricity for every household and business in the franchise area.
Through strategic planning, modernized infrastructure, and a customer-first approach, Negros Power continues to strengthen its reputation as a forward-thinking utility provider committed to service beyond power.
