Negros Power Milestones Receive Positive Feedback From Provincial Energy Consultant

Negros Power’s first 16 months of operations in Central Negros have received favorable feedback from a key provincial energy official, following a comprehensive review of the company’s progress and ongoing modernization efforts.

Former Negros Occidental Governor and current Provincial Consultant on Energy and Environment, Rafael L. Coscolluela Jr., recently expressed satisfaction with the milestones achieved by the power distribution utility since assuming operations. His remarks came after an official visit to Negros Power’s headquarters along Lacson Street, joined by representatives from various civic organizations and the Bacolod Social Action Center.

The delegation was welcomed by Negros Power President and CEO Roel Z. Castro, who led a detailed walkthrough of the company’s facilities. The visit covered key operational areas, including customer care services, the control center, helpline operations, and energy trading offices. During the briefing, Castro outlined the utility’s major accomplishments, providing an overview of how system improvements are being implemented on the ground.

Among the areas discussed were capacity upgrades, reliability and modernization programs, system loss reduction initiatives, expansion of customer services, sitio electrification projects, and corporate social responsibility efforts. Castro also shared updates on power sourcing, electricity rates, renewable energy transition plans, and major infrastructure projects targeted for completion by 2026.

Coscolluela noted that transparency has been a consistent feature of Negros Power’s operations, allowing stakeholders to clearly understand how improvements are being carried out. He added that observable reductions in brownouts and improvements in system loss performance directly benefit consumers, as these costs are ultimately reflected in electricity bills.

A central highlight of the visit was the disclosure that Negros Power has already invested ₱1.3 billion in capital expenditures (CAPEX) as of December 31, 2025. These investments underscore the company’s commitment to strengthening power reliability, efficiency, and safety throughout its franchise area.

A significant portion of the CAPEX has been allocated to reliability-focused projects. These include the upgrading and modernization of substations, power lines, poles, and transformers, as well as the rehabilitation and replacement of aging meters and other critical components. Investments were also made in modern testing tools and equipment to help ensure system integrity and minimize the risk of outages.

Strengthening Customer Service and Workforce Safety

Beyond physical infrastructure, Negros Power has directed substantial resources toward information technology systems, software, and digital tools designed to streamline internal processes and improve customer experience. Additional funding supported office equipment, tools, furniture, and improvements to the main office, sub-offices, and warehouses, all aimed at enhancing response times and service efficiency.

Safety and workforce development were also identified as priorities. The company invested in modern safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) for field personnel, alongside training programs, professional development initiatives, and participation in industry conferences. These efforts reflect a broader goal of building a skilled, safety-conscious, and competent workforce.

Expanding Access Through Sitio Electrification

Negros Power has likewise earmarked ₱250 million for its three-year Sitio Electrification Program, which targets 100 percent electrification across its franchise area. The program focuses on extending electricity to underserved and remote communities through the installation of poles, power lines, and transformers, supporting inclusive development and improved quality of life.

According to Castro, the company’s investments are guided by a long-term strategy centered on resilience, modernization, and customer-focused service. He emphasized that the goal goes beyond infrastructure, aiming to support economic activity and empower communities across Central Negros.

Looking Ahead

As Negros Power continues its transformation, the scale and direction of its investments are laying the groundwork for a more dependable and future-ready electrical network. Coscolluela added that sustained modernization efforts are expected to enhance investor confidence in the province, contributing to broader economic growth in Negros Occidental.

With major projects still underway and further improvements planned through 2026, Negros Power’s early milestones signal a clear shift toward a more reliable, efficient, and inclusive power distribution system for Central Negros consumers.
