Negros Power And WSFP Transform Lives Through Surgical Mission In Negros

Six months after their groundbreaking surgical mission, Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power) and the World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP) are seeing the long-term impact of a healthcare initiative that changed lives in ways that go far beyond the operating room.
Held in December 2024 at Valladolid District Hospital, the mission provided free life-changing surgical procedures to 142 patients across Negros. For many, this was the first time they had access to safe, professional medical intervention — an opportunity that was previously out of reach due to financial hardship or lack of access to care.
Restoring Health, Rebuilding Lives
Among the many stories that emerged from the mission was that of Joey Mission, who had suffered for years from an indirect inguinal hernia. His daily life was consumed by pain, limiting his movement and his ability to work. After the operation, Joey described the change as nothing short of transformational: “I’m working again, supporting my family, and living without fear.”
Melanie Vargas, who struggled with pain from a gall bladder polyp, echoed the sentiment. Surgery, she said, was a dream her family couldn’t afford — until the mission made it possible. Now, she enjoys a life free of pain and full of hope, crediting the initiative with giving her back a sense of normalcy and peace.

A First for Negros Power
This mission marked Negros Power’s first major healthcare initiative since receiving its Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN). The company partnered with WSFP and local government units to assemble a medical team of expert surgeons, nurses, and volunteers who selflessly gave their time and skills to serve the underserved.
“This effort was never just about performing surgeries,” shared Maricel Pe, Assistant Vice President for Customer Care and Marketing at Negros Power. “It was about bringing hope and restoring dignity to people who thought they had run out of options.”
A Continuing Commitment to Community Wellness
More than just a one-time outreach, the success of this surgical mission reflects Negros Power’s deeper commitment to nation-building. The company’s community development program aims to improve lives not only through reliable electricity but also by contributing to public health, education, and social services.
Encouraged by the positive outcomes and heartfelt testimonials, Negros Power has confirmed that a second surgical mission is already in the works. Details — including the date and location — will be announced soon, as planning moves forward with support from WSFP and other stakeholders.

Beyond Power: A Lasting Commitment
Six months on, the stories from the first surgical mission continue to inspire. For those who once lived in pain and uncertainty, this collaboration between Negros Power and WSFP offered a second chance — and a renewed sense of purpose.
It also served as a reminder that corporate responsibility, when paired with compassion and action, can have a profound and lasting impact on people’s lives. As Negros Power prepares for its next mission, the message is clear: true service means lighting lives — in every sense of the word.
