Negros Power Marks Two Years With Gains In Reliability And Continued Investment In Central Negros

Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power) is marking its second year of operations in Central Negros with improvements in power distribution and a renewed commitment to the communities it serves.

As the company enters its third year, Primelectric Holdings Inc. President and CEO Roel Z. Castro highlighted the progress achieved since Negros Power began operations, noting that the company has already completed nearly half of its targets under its five-year development plan.

Improved Power Service Reliability

One of the key developments cited by Castro was the improvement in the reliability of the distribution system. The system average frequency of outages has been reduced by approximately 70 percent, while the duration of outages has declined by around 75 percent.

Despite these improvements, Castro acknowledged that challenges remain, particularly those related to the availability of power generation in the grid.

He explained that some of the recent interruptions experienced by consumers have been linked to insufficient generation supply rather than issues within Negros Power’s distribution system. Recurring Yellow and Red Alerts, as well as the implementation of Manual Load Dropping, have been associated with generation shortages, particularly when major power plants are unavailable.

Castro called for stronger cooperation among stakeholders to elevate concerns about power supply to the Regional Development Council and the national government, emphasizing the need for solutions that can address generation constraints affecting the region.

Looking Beyond Electricity Distribution

While improving power service remains a key priority, Negros Power also continues to pursue initiatives aimed at creating a broader impact in Central Negros.

Among these are environmental programs such as mangrove planting and forest adoption, as well as heritage-related efforts including the illumination of the Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol. These activities reflect the company’s aim to contribute to the communities it serves beyond its core role as an electricity distributor.

Castro emphasized that current power supply challenges should not prevent the company from pursuing its long-term goals in Negros.
