Negros Power Prevents Major Power Outage In Bacolod Through Proactive Thermal Monitoring

Negros Power Prevents Major Power Outage In Bacolod Through Proactive Thermal Monitoring

A major power outage in Bacolod City was narrowly avoided after Negros Power detected a critical hotspot in its sub-transmission system through routine thermal scanning.

The issue was traced to a 69-kilovolt Group Operated Air Break Switch that connects the NGCP substation to Negros Power’s Burgos and Mt. View substations. The thermal scan revealed a dangerously high temperature of 316°C — over four times the normal operating level of 70°C — signaling a high risk of failure.

To prevent an unplanned and prolonged outage, the company immediately scheduled hotspot correction work between 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM, requiring a short power interruption in affected areas.
