Negros Power Strengthens Grid With Key Infrastructure Upgrades

Negros Power recently undertook a significant two-day rehabilitation project aimed at enhancing the resilience and reliability of the power grid across Central Negros. The initiative, conducted on February 22 and 23, focused on critical areas serviced by the Burgos Feeder 3 and the 69kV Bacolod-Silay Subtransmission Line.
Strengthening the Power Infrastructure
This large-scale rehabilitation effort is part of Negros Power’s ongoing commitment to providing uninterrupted electricity service, particularly in high-risk areas prone to extreme weather conditions. By replacing aging infrastructure and upgrading vital components, the company aims to minimize outages and ensure a stable power supply for residential, commercial, and industrial consumers.

According to Engr. Mervin Dalian, Assistant Vice President of the Network Development and Operations Group, proactive upgrades are necessary to mitigate risks before calamities strike. “We are prioritizing these preemptive measures to reinforce our network against potential typhoons and other challenges,” he explained.
Key Upgrades and Enhancements
Throughout the two-day project, dedicated teams worked diligently to complete essential upgrades, which included:
- Replacement of 18 aging poles and installation of 235 new pin insulators along the route from Barangay Granada to Barangay Alangilan.
- Deployment of tree wires to improve network stability and reduce potential disruptions.
- Replacement of 7 deteriorating poles and installation of 3 new insulators along the 69kV Bacolod-Silay Subtransmission Line.
Despite challenging weather conditions and difficult terrain, Negros Power successfully executed these upgrades to reinforce the structural integrity of the grid.
Part of a Long-Term Modernization Plan
This initiative is a crucial component of Negros Power’s 5-year Rehabilitation and Modernization Program, which focuses on addressing infrastructure vulnerabilities and ensuring long-term sustainability. The first three years of the program prioritize rehabilitation and standardization, including meter replacements, the installation of elevated metering centers, and major substation upgrades. The latter two years will focus on modernization and expansion efforts.

Negros Power, which secured a franchise in July last year to manage the electricity distribution system in Bacolod, Bago, Talisay, and Silay, as well as the municipalities of Murcia and Don Salvador Benedicto, remains steadfast in its mission to provide a reliable and efficient power network for the region.
A Commitment to Reliable Energy
Through projects like this, Negros Power continues to demonstrate its dedication to enhancing power infrastructure and improving service delivery. By investing in modernization and taking proactive measures, the company ensures that communities across Central Negros benefit from a more stable and resilient power supply.
As Negros Power moves forward with its comprehensive development plans, consumers can expect sustained improvements in power reliability, infrastructure resilience, and overall service efficiency.
