A Truly Wonderful Dining Experience At Trattoria Uma
We, Filipinos are known for our love of food and evidence of this is the vast number of restaurants all over the country, particularly in major cities. We are always appreciative of the variety of flavors we get from different cuisines, whether it is Filipino, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish etc. I am not really choosy when it comes to food because I have a palate that can be easily satisfied. Because of this, I often dine out with my family and friends. Bacolod City has tons of restaurants worth checking out and one of them is Trattoria Uma. I am privileged to have been invited to eat there along with my fellow Negros bloggers.
If you love authentic Italian food, Trattoria Uma is the place to go. It is considered as one of the best Italian restaurants not just in Negros Occidental but all over the country. As a matter of fact, it has been chosen as one of the best restaurants of 2014 by Philippine Tatler, the country’s ultimate arbiter of high society, taste and glamour.
Owned by a fellow Negrense, Chef Juan Miguel “Jomi” Gaston, Trattoria Uma’s food is as close to “authentic Italian” as you can get in the Philippines. They make use of only the best and freshest ingredients for their mouth-watering dishes which include salads, bruchettas, pizzas, and pastas. Diners are assured that whatever it is they order, it will definitely be delicious.
Vegetariana Pizza (Php 350) with tomatoes, roasted vegetables, mozzarella cheese, salsa verde
Salmone con Rucola Pizza (Php 400) with tomatoes, smoked salmon, onions, capers, black olives, mozzarella cheese, arugula, truffle tartar sauce, toasted walnuts, lemon zest
Funghi con Pancetta Pizza (Php 400) with tomatoes, onions, assorted mushrooms, pancetta, Italian sausage, truffle oil
Marinara con Pesto Pasta (Personal Php 180 / For Sharing Php 380) with linguine, mixed seafoods, chili, basil pesto, lemon zest
Salsiccie All’Uva con Insalata Mista Salad (Php 350) with sauteed homemade Italian sausage, grapes, organic greens, tomatoes, balsamic glaze
Porchetta All’Uma (Php 350) with roasted pork belly, pumpkin squash puree, Italian sausage, lentils, garden peas, white wine reduction, lemon zest
Gnocchi All’Uma (Php 550) with homemade gnocchi, lamb ragu, green pea cream, homemade pancetta, garden peas, hard boiled egg, black olive, orange zest
We we’re also served with delicious foods from Cafe Uma (it’s just around the corner from Trattoria Uma):
Cafe Uma: Eat, Amusing & Delicious
Cafe Uma Asian Pizza (Php 330) with Asian beef sirloin, bacon, onions, tomato curry sauce, mozzarella cheese, Asian coleslaw
Cafe Uma Pate (Php 200) with chicken liver pate, crostinis, cranberry sauce
Cafe Uma Special Pasta (Php 280) with spaghetti, pesto cream sauce, bacon cubes, smoked salmon
Monsignor Gaston’s Traditional French Onion Soup (Php 180) with crouton, Gruyere cheese
The prices of the food are a bit higher compared to other restaurants in Bacolod but it is still considered more affordable than other restos in Manila. Anyhow, they offer big servings so it is good for sharing. To get that perfect Italian vibe, get to eat your dish with a glass of your favorite wine. No need to buy the whole bottle since you can order by the glass.
Aside from the food, the restaurant’s ambiance is part of its appeal. The place has a rustic feel about it with bare brick walls and mismatched chairs. It is simple and homey, the type of interior which makes you want to stay longer and eat more because it feels as if you are eating at home. It is just a block away from our house but this is the first time I dined there and I really want to hit myself for not trying their sumptuous food sooner.
Here is a sneak peek inside Trattoria Uma’s kitchen. Just look how everything is clean and orderly!
