Negros Power Backs President Marcos’ Plan To Lower Electricity Costs, Awaits DOE And ERC Guidelines
Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power) has expressed its full support for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s initiative to reduce electricity costs, describing the proposal as a positive step toward providing much-needed relief to Filipino consumers.
Following the President’s announcement during his Fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA), the distribution utility said it is prepared to implement the proposed policy once the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) issue the necessary implementing guidelines.
Awaiting Official Regulatory Guidelines
Negros Power explained that while the President has already outlined the government’s direction to lower electricity costs, distribution utilities must continue operating under the current regulatory framework until the appropriate agencies release the official rules for implementation.
Among the measures announced by the President is the proposed removal or reduction of system loss charges, a policy that will require detailed guidelines from both the DOE and the ERC before it can be carried out by distribution utilities.
The company emphasized that it will fully comply with all directives once the implementing rules are finalized.
Commitment to Affordable Electricity
Negros Power Spokesperson Engr. Leomel H. Tambanillo reaffirmed the company’s support for the national government’s efforts to make electricity more affordable while ensuring compliance with existing laws and regulations.
“Si Negros Power, bug-os ang aton suporta sa inisyatibo ni President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. nga mapanubo ang gasto sa kuryente para sa aton mga konsumedor. Sa oras nga magpagwa ang Department of Energy kag ang Energy Regulatory Commission sang implementing guidelines ukon sang mga kinahanglanon nga regulasyon para sa pagpatuman sini nga polisiya, handa kita kag sigurado nga magatuman sing bug-os.”
Tambanillo noted that although the policy direction has already been announced, distribution utilities are required to wait for the official implementing guidelines before making any adjustments related to the proposed changes.
Full Cooperation with Government Agencies
Negros Power also reaffirmed its commitment to work closely with the national government, the DOE, and the ERC to ensure the proper implementation of future directives.
The company said it remains ready to carry out all regulatory requirements once they are officially issued, while continuing to provide reliable and consumer-focused electricity services.

As the government moves forward with initiatives aimed at reducing electricity costs, Negros Power said it stands ready to support the implementation of the program in accordance with the rules that will be established by the DOE and the ERC.
