Negros Power Earns ERC Recognition For Advancing Renewable Energy Through Net-Metering

Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power) has received national recognition from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for its efforts in promoting renewable energy and encouraging consumer participation in the country’s transition toward cleaner and more sustainable power sources.

The recognition was presented during the ERC’s 25th Anniversary celebration held on June 26, 2026, at the commission’s main office, highlighting the utility’s leadership in implementing the Net-Metering Program across its franchise area.

Recognition for Clean Energy Leadership

Negros Power was awarded a plaque of recognition for its exemplary implementation of the Net-Metering Program, an initiative that allows qualified electricity consumers to generate their own power using renewable energy systems, such as rooftop solar panels, while remaining connected to the distribution grid.

The award was presented by ERC Chairperson Atty. Francis Saturnino Juan to Negros Power President and Chief Executive Officer Roel Castro, with Energy Secretary Sharon Garin joining the recognition ceremony.

According to the ERC, Negros Power has empowered the highest number of Qualified End-Users (QEs) in the Visayas since the Net-Metering Program was introduced in 2014.

Growing Adoption of Renewable Energy

As of June 19, 2026, Negros Power reported a total installed net-metering capacity of 23,797 kilowatts (kW) across 1,471 Qualified End-Users within its franchise area.

These figures reflect the increasing adoption of renewable energy technologies by residential, commercial, and institutional consumers who have chosen to invest in clean energy systems.

Through net-metering, consumers are able to generate electricity from renewable sources, helping reduce dependence on conventional power generation while contributing to a more sustainable energy system.

Supporting the Country’s Clean Energy Goals

The ERC recognized Negros Power’s contribution to expanding consumer participation in renewable energy and promoting innovation within the Philippine electric power industry.

The commission noted that the company’s initiatives have helped modernize the power sector while encouraging greater use of renewable energy technologies.

Negros Power said the recognition reinforces its commitment to supporting the country’s clean energy transition and promoting sustainable practices among the communities it serves.

The company added that the successful implementation of its Net-Metering Program has encouraged more consumers to explore renewable energy solutions and become active participants in building a cleaner energy future.

A Shared Achievement

In a statement, Negros Power expressed gratitude for the recognition and acknowledged the role of its consumers, partners, and stakeholders in the program’s success.

The company described the award as a reflection of its continuing efforts to promote innovation, sustainability, and meaningful progress through reliable energy services.

It also dedicated the recognition to everyone who has supported its clean energy initiatives, emphasizing that the achievement would not have been possible without the trust and cooperation of its customers and partners.

Looking Ahead

As the Philippines continues to pursue greater integration of renewable energy into its power mix, programs such as net-metering are expected to play an increasingly important role in expanding consumer participation and reducing dependence on traditional energy sources.

For Negros Power, the ERC recognition marks another milestone in its sustainability initiatives while reaffirming its commitment to helping build a cleaner, more resilient, and future-ready energy sector for the communities it serves.
