Negros Power Pushes For Reliable And Sustainable Energy At 35th Visayas Business Conference

Negros Power joined business leaders, energy stakeholders, and industry experts at the 35th Visayas Area Business Conference (VABC), where discussions focused on building more sustainable, resilient, and future-ready communities across the Visayas region.

The conference gathered representatives from various sectors to address key issues affecting economic growth, infrastructure development, and long-term sustainability. One of the major topics highlighted during the event was the growing importance of stable and reliable energy supply in supporting businesses and communities.

Rising Power Demand in the Visayas

During a presentation titled “Powering Growth: Energy as the Engine of Visayas Trade & Investment,” Primelectric Holdings Inc. President and CEO Roel Z. Castro discussed the increasing electricity demand across the Visayas.

According to Castro, rapid economic growth, industrial expansion, and rising investments in areas such as Panay, Negros, Cebu, Leyte, and Bohol are expected to significantly increase the region’s power requirements in the coming years.

He explained that while renewable energy remains an important part of the country’s long-term energy goals, dependable baseload power is still necessary to maintain stability in the grid and avoid supply shortages.

Challenges Facing the Visayas Grid

The discussion also highlighted several issues currently affecting the Visayas power system, including limited transmission capacity between islands, supply imbalance, and the impact of rising global fuel prices.

Despite Negros having strong renewable energy resources, the island still relies heavily on inter-island power transmission and imported electricity during periods of high demand. Castro noted that recurring yellow alerts in the Visayas grid show the need for additional investments in dependable energy infrastructure.

He emphasized that energy transition efforts must be balanced carefully to ensure that consumers continue to receive stable and affordable electricity while renewable energy projects continue to expand.

The 35th VABC served as a platform for discussions on how infrastructure, innovation, and sustainability can help shape the future of the Visayas region.

For Negros Power, the event reinforced the importance of preparing for increasing demand while ensuring that energy systems remain stable, efficient, and resilient.

As development continues across the Visayas, the company stressed that long-term investments in reliable power infrastructure and responsible energy solutions will remain essential in supporting economic progress and improving the quality of life of consumers.
